A warm welcome to our website in which you will obtain interesting information about the Wellington School, Somerset, Lodge in particular, and, by exploring the links, about Freemasonry in general. We meet at The Masonic Hall, Wellington, TA21 8BZ, on the third Saturday in the months of February, April and October (Installation) and the first Saturday in December at such an hour as the Master may direct.
Our Lodge was consecrated in Great Hall, Wellington School, Somerset on 10th January 1953 by R. W. Bro. Brigadier-General Claude Lumsden Norman, D.S.O., M.V.O., D.L., P.S.G.D., (Eng.) Provincial Grand Master (Somerset). The Lodge is formed for the Old Boys of Wellington School, Somerset, and present and past members of the school staff, in particular to promote the principles of Freemasonry among them and for the general good of the Craft. Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. Members are expected to be of high moral standing and are encouraged to speak openly about Freemasonry.
Freemasonry is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values. Its members are taught its principles (moral lessons and self-knowledge) by a series of ritual dramas - a progression of allegorical two-part plays which are learnt by heart and performed within each Lodge, which follow ancient forms, and use stonemason's customs and tools as allegorical guides. Freemasonry instils in its members a moral and ethical approach to life: our values are based on integrity, kindness, honesty and fairness. Members are urged to regard the interests of the family as paramount but, importantly, Freemasonry also teaches concern for people, care for the less fortunate and help for those in need. From its earliest days Freemasonry has been concerned with the care of orphans, the sick and the aged. This work continues today and large sums are given to national and local charities.
